GlobalGap stands for the requirements imposed at global level on agricultural and horticultural producers concerning food safety, storage life and quality. To meet the consumer's wishes and requirements for more food safety in agricultural and horticultural produce, 26 European supermarket organisations took the initiative in 1997 to coordinate the requirements that they impose on their suppliers of fresh produce. This resulted in the establishment of the GlobalGap protocol. This protocol creates the setting for good agricultural practice (GAP) at farm level.
It determines the minimum standards that produce must meet to be accepted by large retailers.GlobalGap aims to increase consumer confidence in the quality and safety of food. Furthermore, GlobalGap shows that in producing these goods, attention is devoted to worker welfare, the environment, natural resources, and flora and fauna. The protocol is used as a benchmark for current production methods. The guidelines are a means of introducing integrated crop protection in conventional agriculture and horticulture.
The system for food safety and quality depends on our growers. That is why controls on producers is essential. Veiling Hoogstraten is certified to attest its growers for GlobalGap.
