Since 2008, Veiling Hoogstraten (Hoogstraten Auction) has been certified for the self-monitoring guide, Trade.
This guide was created as the result of the Royal Decree on self-monitoring, mandatory reporting and traceability in the food supply chain dating from 14 November 2003.
The guide contains all the requirements and recommendations concerning food safety (including traceability and mandatory reporting) and quality (aspects of the authority of the FAVV or Federal Agency for Food Safety) applicable to the potato – vegetable – fruit processing establishments and in the trade in PVF-products (potatoes, vegetables and fruit).
The following aspects are included in this guide:
- Aspects concerning food safety: avoiding and controlling microbiological, chemical, allergenic and physical hazards;
- Aspects concerning the quality of the products over which the FAVV have authority (GMOs, ionising radiation, commercial standards for vegetables/fruit, quality requirements for potatoes)
- Phytosanitary aspects: the FAVV is authorised for the health/safety of plants and vegetable products. The control, monitoring & checks against harmful organisms for plants and vegetable products is regulated by law. The Guide includes information on the phytosanitary requirements applicable for the import, export and intra-community trade in potatoes, fruit & vegetables.
- Traceability: requirements regarding the traceability of the products sold
- Mandatory reporting: what must be reported and when to the FAVV
